Student Responsibilities continued

Absences and Attendance

Attendance is important for success and achievement in school.  Last year, in Miami-Dade County, the Miami Shores/Barry University Charter School was number one out of all MDCPS  schools in attendance.   This year, we are going to keep up the good work so that we will continue our number one status.

Students are required to attend school every day.  When a student is absent from school a parent/guardian must call the school office, (305) 754-2381, prior to 9:00 A.M. on the day of the absence to report the nature of the illness and the expected date of return. When a student is absent for three (3) or more consecutive days, the student must present a doctor’s note to the main office and/or have an administrative conference before he/she will be admitted to class.

The policy will be followed:

All tardies to school will be unexcused except for the following reasons:

All absences from school will be unsatisfactory except for the following reasons:

All absences and tardies are recorded as unexcused unless and until the school receives valid parent notification.  If your child arrives in Homeroom after 8:30, you must contact the office with the reason.

Students are required to be in school for the full day.  Parents are to be cautioned about taking students out of school early as this does impact class work and homework.  Illness of self or family or a doctor’s appointment will be the only excused early release sign-outs.  Students transported in car pools must not be impacted by emergencies/early release sign outs by other car pool participants. Additionally, excessive tardies, early dismissals, or absences, whether excused or unexcused, will be considered a breach of the student/parent contract and will result in the student being returned to his/her home school.
