Student Responsibilities continued
Code of Conduct
In
order to address discipline issues and to insure the health, safety, and welfare
of all students attending the school, Miami Shores/Barry University Charter
School will adopt the M-DCPS Student Code of Conduct.
Students who attend the Charter School and their parents will enter
into contracts with the school. These
contracts will detail the responsibilities that staff members, students, and
parents are expected to fulfill. If
parents and/or students do not meet these obligations, it will be recommended
that the student return to his/her home school.
If necessary, the school will withdraw or transfer the student through
administrative proceedings.
Students
are expected to treat each other and staff members with respect and dignity.
Disrespect of anyone will not be tolerated.
If a student continually violates school rules or classroom regulations,
a conference between the student and/or parent and an administrator will be
scheduled to determine an appropriate student placement.
The
following behaviors will cause the student to be in breach of his/her Charter
School Student Contract and will result in serious consequences:
Violation of dress code
Failure to bring required supplies to class
Deceitful conduct, including (but not limited to)
dishonesty with school personnel
Disrespect to school personnel or other student/s

Misconduct in the classroom, during the lunch period, or
on the school bus
Use of foul or abusive language

Failure
to complete homework

Failure to report for detention
Violation of Computer/Internet Pledge
Once
the student has earned a detention, he/she will be given a detention slip giving
the parent/guardian notice that the detention is to be served on the next school
day. It is the responsibility of
the parent/guardian to make arrangements for the student’s transportation home
that day. The slip is to be signed
by the parent and returned by the student to the teacher or administrator who
issued the slip.
