Community
Service
Every student is required to
perform community service. This
service can take many forms:
Reading to residents of nearby elderly care facilities
and/or hospitals.
Expanding reading and mentoring programs to neighboring
schools.
Involvement in community initiatives (clean-ups, graffiti
paint-outs, etc.).
Tutoring younger students.
Peer mentoring.
After-school clubs and activities.
Students are required to keep a log of Community Service Hours for review by parents/guardians and by the Lead Teacher. These are to be updated by students each nine weeks and turned in to the homeroom teachers. Each student must have accrued 75 community service hours by the completion of the eighth (8th) grade. Each student must attain Twenty-Five hours per year and it is the student’s responsibility to log these hours and bring them in to his/her homeroom teacher.
